The Final Cruise - Nick Thompson (1939-2008)
On a beautiful, summer morning, 19 classics paraded solemnly behind Nick Thompson's hearse to the quaint S. Airmont Lutheran Cemetery. Chris Pinotti's 1923 Model T and Jim Ewing's 1930 Model A served as flower cars, leading the Rodders' for a final cruise with Nick. As a slight breeze cooled the crowd, Taps echoed mournfully through the cemetery. Men removed their hats with respect as the Honor Guard presented Ruth with the precisely folded American flag that draped Nick's coffin. Both men and women wiped tears away as they placed a flower at the grave site, saying goodbye to their friend. Later on that afternoon, after a cruise to the American Legion Post in Pomona, led by Jeff Rosen, stories of Nick were told with mixed emotions. The club would like to thank Ruth for allowing us to honor Nick in a way he would have liked. Our hearts and prayers are with Ruth, their children, Lynn and Nick, and their grandchildren.
